The Leather Pants

I'm not looking for my other half, because I'm not a half. I don't need completion. Alone, I am a complete person, I am a happy person, and I am more than capable of being by myself. That being said, I consider myself to be a hopeful romantic. I'm convinced that there is someone out there for me who will share in my happiness and be another whole that I can add to my life.
The Leather Pants is going to be the story of my search for the man that I can share my life with. This is an introduction to how I got to this point in my life and what pushed me toward this leg of my journey. Read more...

Date 1 - Anderson

It all started with a wink. What does that mean on online dating? Not sure, I think it's like a "like" on Facebook. Either way, he was cute so I wrote him a message, he responded and eventually gave me his number. We texted for a few days, I followed the rules in my new man catching book, and voila! A date! (According to my book I'm supposed to call it a "meet up", but I do what I want.) Read more...

Tom showed up one day in my Daily Matches. Some of you may already know, but this is the best part of the day. Basically, you get 11 men chosen for you to peruse. Pictures, descriptions of themselves, descriptions of what they're looking for... I shamelessly judge, like, and message. I (secretly) look forward to this part of the day. How the matches are chosen remains a mystery. A lot of them say "100% match!" which is based on things like our preferences of hair colour, eye colour, race, income, etc. All of which I have not put a preference for, therefore the matches would appear to be random.         Emily came over one day to set up her online dating and I'm pretty sure Dan was in my Daily Matches or we somehow stumbled upon his profile. He looked sort of different in each picture and we couldn't decide if he was cute enough to message. I guess eventually I must have messaged him and it must have gone well. We had messaged for longer than the other guys before mentioning we should meet up, then I was not that interested so I didn't make an effort, then I was too hungover the day we were supposed to meet up (after a camping trip I took with some girlfriends). So it took a while to meet up and at that point I was already bored and not wanting to. In the end, I'm glad I went out. Read more...

Saturday was my first online dating follow-up date. Success! In that it proved that not all men one meets online are mortifyingly boring in real life and that one out of three merits a second date. Fail! In that it went super poorly and I will not be seeing him again. Read more...

Date 5 - Chas

Oh my goodness, you are in for a treat! Last night, I went on the worst of all the online dates that I've been on. In fact it only lasted 30 minutes, that's how bad it was. Read more...

Date 6 - Tom 2

One day during my daily matches, I was clearly in a very good mood or had my judgment impaired, because I had said I was interested in Tom 2 and then followed up with an email. No, this was not a rare occurrence, but when I went back to look at his profile before meeting him on Friday, I couldn't figure out why I would have given him a check mark or sent him a message. Read more...

Chaz Follow-Up

Let me be clear, this was not a date. If you recall from the initial Chas date he was short, I was unimpressed, things lasted 30 minutes, I bailed. Those are the Coles Notes, if you want a full recap, see Date 5. However, since then the most hilarious things have transpired and I have to share. Read more...

Date 8 - Peter

Last week I decided I was done with waiting around for something that was never going to happen, so I moved on from what I had been waiting for and from what had been holding me back. I bit the bullet and signed up for online dating again. This time on a new free dating site recommended to me by multiple friends. How much could it hurt? Read more...

Date 9 - Sam

One day, Sam sent me a pretty hilarious message online. I'm pretty sure it started something like, "When I was growing up I had a dog named Jess, she was smart and sweet. Are you smart and sweet?" (I mean, obvs.) The message went on for quite a while, asked interesting questions and told me he played volleyball, which was all I needed to know. Read more...

Date 10 - Jesse

Jesse messaged me one day and started an interesting conversation that I can no longer remember. He seemed cute in his profile, dirty blonde hair, blue eyes, big smile, dad bod, stubble. Exactly what I like. We messaged for a while, then I decided we should text, and the poor guy put up with me not answering and changing plans on him a couple of times. So even though I should not have gone out with him... Read more...

Date 11 - Scott

One day I was killing time online and was looking at profiles that caught my eye immediately AKA profiles that had pictures of men with dogs. Scott was one of them and from his profile, which didn't say a lot, there wasn't much to talk about except this dog! In the pictures, the dog was dressed up as Where's Waldo and I'm a sucker for a puppy costume. So I struck up a conversation about said dog and it quickly let to more messages. Read more...
